Will direct deposit go through if bank is closed?
Direct deposit does not process on bank holidays. If payday falls on a bank holiday, employees will not receive their direct deposit. Employees' direct deposits are delayed a day when payday falls on a bank holiday.
If your account has been closed, the financial institution will return the direct deposit and a refund check will be mailed to you within 6 weeks of receipt of the returned direct deposit attempt.
For direct deposits to be processed the Federal Reserve bank must be open. Therefore ACH transactions are processed during the week days, and partially on Saturdays. If you submit a direct deposit request via online bank on a Sunday, your bank holds your request and executes it on Monday.
When the Federal Reserve is closed on holidays, money doesn't get transferred, AKA direct deposits won't go through on those days. And while most banks follow suit and close their doors, some remain open but offer minimal services.
You can still receive deposits into frozen bank accounts, but withdrawals and transfers are not permitted. Banks may freeze bank accounts if they suspect illegal activity such as money laundering, terrorist financing, or writing bad checks.
Online Banking: Log in to your bank's website or mobile app. Navigate to the recent activity section and search for the direct deposit transaction. It may be labeled with the payer's name or simply listed as "Direct Deposit." Bank Customer Service: You can also call your bank's customer service phone number.

Banks are required to make direct-deposit funds available for withdrawal not later than the business day after the banking day on which the bank received the electronic payment. For instance, funds direct deposited on a regular, non-holiday Monday would be available by Tuesday.
If your payday falls on a weekend or Federal Holiday, your direct deposit could be delayed. Other reasons for a delay could be related to the electronic transfer system by either the payer or your bank. A tax return payment is somewhat unpredictable and is based on the processing time of your file.
Funds that are directly deposited into a bank account typically go through before 9 a.m. but can arrive as early as midnight. The variability in the amount of time it can take is largely due to the payer's timeframe to release funds.

Direct deposit funds are often available almost instantaneously, but sometimes the transfer takes longer to go through and be processed by the receiving bank. Direct deposits can take between one and three days.
Does direct deposit go through on weekends? The ACH Network does not settle payments on weekends (or holidays) when the Federal Reserve system is closed. If your payday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it won't post until Monday.

If you deposit a check from someone's closed account, that check will bounce, which means it will be returned to you, not to the check writer, and it will be marked “Account Closed.” Any money that was initially credited to your account will be deleted.
Each bank has different rules, but you can expect most direct deposits to hit your bank account at midnight. This is because some financial institutions update their accounts a few hours after midnight.
The receiving bank will recognize that the account is closed, and the funds won't be able to be deposited. In such cases, the money should be returned to the sender, and the transaction will not be completed.
You'll get your money back (usually). You may receive a check in the mail for the remaining balance, unless the bank suspects terrorism or other illegal activities. You can also go to a branch and receive a cashier's check for the account balance. Customer service may not be very helpful.
What time of day does direct deposit hit? Usually, you'll have access to your direct deposit at the opening of business on your payday — by 9 a.m. In many cases, direct deposits hit accounts even earlier, often between midnight and 6 a.m. on payday morning.
The Federal Reserve's settlement system operates from 7:30 AM ET on a Monday morning, closing at 6.30 PM ET every evening until Friday. That means that you can't receive an ACH on a weekend or federal holiday. ACH payments are popular because they tend to be cheap or even free to arrange.
Contact your employer (preferably in writing) and ask for the wages owed to you. If your employer refuses to do so, consider filing a claim with your state's labor agency. File a suit in small claims court or superior court for the amount owed.
What is a delayed deposit?
A Delayed Deposit Service, or DDS, basically allows individuals to obtain cash using a check as collateral for a maximum 34-day period. There are laws governing the business practices of these companies, which you can find under the Delayed Deposit Services/Payday Lenders menu and the DDS Statutes link.

However, the exact time of day that your paycheck or benefit payment is deposited onto your card will usually vary from payday to payday because employers and benefits providers often send payment instructions at different times from pay period to pay period and fraud prevention restrictions may apply.
You can check the status of your deposit in your digital banking. Choose your account from the dashboard. Select Available balance on the right. If the deposit is still pending, the Funds held from deposit* section will show the amount held.
