The Lorelocke - Version 1.55 is up (lots of new rules), including all pokemon up to Gen 6! (A discord server and art for every pokemon up to Gen 3!) (2024)

Hello hello!

Yes, I know it's been about two weeks, and a new update is already coming. Apologies if this messes your current running Lorelockes in any way or just seems weird, but hopefully it will just add to your current run and doesn't change too many things retroactively. The Lorelocke muse had really been with me lately, and a huge factor here is all the great feedback and engagement I've been seeing (especially in the discord). So once again, thank you so much! Truly.

In fact, the following update is the biggest non-full generation update I ever made. It includes tons of changes, fixes, some new art (the @mewstein gift that keeps on giving), completely new mechanics, rule explanations, color-coding, new rules, and much more. In fact, I think at least two of these changes deserve an explanation and not just a line in the update log:

First of all, I created a completely new kind of rules called Core Rules. There are quite a lot of concepts I wanted to add to the Lorelocke over the years, but I know this ruleset is on the more complicated side as is so I'm very careful when thinking about adding completely new mechanisms. My vision is still that every person with no knowledge about this ruleset in advance could spend 10-15 minutes reading the basic rules and just start playing it. Still, after some thought and debate I decided this new concept is relatively not complicated and could add a lot and would allow me to do some really fun things I've been wanting to do for a while. I also started simple and didn't add a lot of new Core Rules to first test it out, and maybe over time I'll add more to older pokemon. But what are Core Rules you ask? Very simple - A pokemon with a Core Rule has this rule come in effect in addition to the rule you will randomize for it as usual. For example, in the new version Ditto (and many other shapeshifting pokemon) have the Master of Disguise rule as a Core rule, which means that you will only know the effect of the rule you will randomize after you roll it (as usual). Another example - Koffing/Grimer gained the Toxic Presence rule which added an extra effect of making some of possibly your pokemon sick when it is caught, again no matter what rule you get in addition. This allows me to make sure you will interact with specific rules more, won't harm my effort of making sure you still get randomized rules and a different experience every game (as it is in addition to the regular rules), and make certain pokemon stand out. Hope you like the idea! And if you will, I might add more in the future.

Second major change I made was color-code certain terms. Currently these are: Royal, Quest, Chosen and Lore Ailments - a new term for all negative lingering lore effects that are common to more than one rule (being sick, stunned, fatigued or cursed). These terms are often referred by many rules as I hoped they could make interesting rule interactions, and I think that would make it easier to follow this. In addition to just coloring them though, I also made many changes to these rules and added new ones/added such features to older rules, hoping it would make them even more relevant, and help me make this ruleset feel more uniform and complete. I put an extra emphasis on the Lore Ailments as I think they make for some really cool conditions (not every lorerule has to either kill you or limit your movepool!), and on Quests as I got a lot of feedback from people enjoying these and wishing there were more. Royals and Chosen are already very represented in the rules, but I keep adding more meaning into these terms.

And that's it I think, here's the very massive log of changes:

Update 1.54:

Art:

Hot new art for the Burmy line!
Supreme new art for the Combee line!

Added:

Added a completely new feature - Core Rules!
Added/replaced the following rules into Core Rules - Master of Disguise (no longer a separate rule), Hidden Power (new rule for Unown), Magnetic Field (a new rule for Magnemite) Toxic Presence (new rule for Grimer and Koffing), Enlightened Revelation (a new rule dealing with Quests for Meditite, Natu, Celebi, Makuhita, Baltoy, Beldum, Gothita, Elgyem, Mienfoo)
Added a color-coding system to make certain terms stand out! Including Chosen pokemon, Lore Ailments, Royals and Quest (for now, more might be added in the future, I'm open for feedback as always and would love to hear your thoughts here).
Added the new Shojo rule to the Darmanitan line!
Added the new Cattle of Helios rule to Miltank instead of the Ushi Oni rule that didn't fit it. But worry not, a new and improved Ushi Oni rule will be given to a Gen 7 mon).
Added a new rule to Bulbasuar, The Benevolent Frog (based on a very eventful fairy tale I could only use some elements of it).
Added the The Prophesied Protagonist trainer type to the variants appendix! (suggested by @estralita !).
Added five new rule clarifications – about how to treat certain rules in the Let's Go games, how to treat references to Gym leaders in the Alola games, about the Core rules, the new color-coding system, and a mention of the variants.
Added an extra Special Thanks page! As you guys really deserve it. If you want to appear there (or for some reason I forgot you!) and have posted a lorelocke, gave me some feedback at any point about your run or the rules, just feel connected to this project and wish to be a part of it in spirit, contact me!
Gave Aerodactyl the Ancient Grudge rule.

Changed:

Changed Medusa Ancestry rule to say it must know a move that "May" cause a status condition.
Clarified Mirror Mirror on the Wall (thanks @Ryomu ), as well as The Perfect Mimic.
Added "Considered Royal" to The Spirit of the Pearls.
Added Aqua Ring as an option for Like a Fish out of Water (for a future pokemon).
Changed Eater of Souls to also come in effect upon capture.

Changed Zombie Insect rule to also say "It is also considered Ghost type for lorerule purposes and can't die from lorerules." as well as making maintain it a bit cheaper.
Changed Song of the Joyful Cicada Nymph to no longer require you to not open with this pokemon (no need to make Parasect even less usable right?).
Changed Aggressive Parasite to only kill your pokemon 40% of the time.
Changed Legend of the Golden Duck to be a bit more expensive, and refer to Quests.
Changed Dedicated Marshal Artist to also say "It may once in the game learn moves from one more type of your choice if it is shared with a pokemon of your who finished a Quest."

Changed Dimachaerus to only come into play as Kabutops (for that line of pokemon).
Changed Living Totem to also be activated by Quest completions.
Changed Deer Lady to cancel the lorerule of the Wedlocked pokemon as long as Stantler is in the party with them.
United the two different lorerules I made about Jiraiya (for some reason, how the heck did I miss that?) into one.
Changed Goose Barnacle to only work once.
Changed Living Hamsa to also say "You can sacrifice Binacle/Barbaracle to heal a curse".
Completely changed how Muse worked and also gave it to Ralts - "Once in the game whenever you may choose a pokemon with a Quest that fought alongside X in at least one gym battle, and fulfil its Quest (act as if the Quest's goal was finished)."
Made Valkyrie a bit less cruel.
Made Fog From The Moors a bit less restrictive (only have to open with these moves if it is the first pokemon in your party).
Replaced Mewtwo's Satanic Ritual with Doomsday Satanic Ritual!
Increased the Chance of Steelix getting certain rules by making some rules Onix only.
Removed Childhood Protector from Ralts (enough pokemon have it and I wanted to give other rules a chance to shine).
Many other small fixe.

As usual, I really hope you'll enjoy these rules, and I'd love to hear more from you. Feedback is the backbone of this project, and there is nothing that motivates me more than hearing your stories and answering your questions, and generally knowing others use these rules and enjoy them.

I'm still working hard on the Gen 7 rules (and who knows, maybe I'll make a posted Gen 7 Lorelocke when it comes out, I'm seriously considering that), and if you want to see many of these as I'm working on them check the discord.

See you next time. Enjoy your lore adventures!
