A surprising win for Ferarri at the F1's 'Temple of Speed'
Ferrari has done it.
For the first time since 2019, the Prancing Horse has won at home. Charles Leclerc delivered the victory in front of the Ferrari faithful, keeping a surging Oscar Piastri at bay after the McLaren plucked off Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz. It is Ferrari’s third win of the season, coming after Leclerc’s Monaco GP victory and Sainz’s Australian GP win.

Race ban for Kevin Magnussen
Kevin Magnussen has received a Formula One race ban following a collision during the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday.
The Danish driver accumulated the maximum amount of penalty points (12) after causing a collision with Pierre Gasly during the race, an incident where he received a 10-second penalty and two penalty points. It comes after a series of penalties that began in Saudi Arabia, where he incurred three penalty points and a 10-second penalty for causing a collision with Williams’ Alex Albon.
“Unfortunately, Magnussen collected two penalty points for the collision with Gasly,” Haas confirmed in a statement, “meaning he will now serve a one-race suspension in Azerbaijan, having accumulated a total of 12 maximum penalty points in a 12-month period – resulting in the automatic ban.”
The race stewards confirmed that Magnussen’s super license would be suspended “for the next competition,” meaning Magnussen will not race in any session at the Azerbaijan GP on Sept. 15.

The Monza (and Norris) pole curse lives on
For the fifth straight year, the driver on pole for the Italian GP has not won the race. And Lando Norris has still never won from pole in F1. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Magnussen questions penalty: "Where is the logic?"
The Athletic's Madeline Coleman caught up with the Haas driver in the media pen after his penalty for causing a collision with Pierre Gasly. Magnussen possibly faces a race ban at the Azerbaijan GP for reaching 12 penalty points on his super license in the last 12 months.
He was frustrated with the stewards for their decision:
💬 “I don’t understand it at all. Flat out, just completely confused. We raced hard into Turn 4, we had slight contact, and we both missed the corner. We came back on track again, no damage to either car, no consequence in the race for either of us, and I get a 10-second penalty.
💬 “Then lap one, Ricciardo and Nico, Ricciardo put Nico on the grass at 300 km/h, completely destroyed Nico’s race, massive consquence and damage to Nico’s car, and (Hülkenberg) gets a five-second penalty. Where is the logic? I just don’t get it.”
Norris: Surprised by teammate's opening lap overtake
Lando Norris to Sky Sports after the Italian GP:
💬 "A little bit [surprised by Oscar's attempt to overtake in the second chicane]. I would have braked a little bit later if I needed to. We had a big gap behind. Between us two cars, there's no risk. I feel like he got way too close for comfort. We could have both been easily out of that corner if I brake one meter later. If I could rewind, I would do things differently. Oscar drove a good race, so did Charles."
The moment the tifosi erupted
Today will go down as one of Charles Leclerc's favorite moments in motorsport, I'm sure.

Cool-down room debrief
"I wasn't surprised you stayed out, I was surprised you survived," Piastri tells Leclerc.
"If I was locking up, I was destroying it," Leclerc said of his tires. He finished the race on 38-lap-old hards.
The tifosi salute Charles Leclerc.
People heading to the celebrations!
A tire-saving masterclass from Charles Leclerc
Simply remarkable. Charles Leclerc delivers Ferrari's first home victory at Monza since 2019 - which was his own second race win - and the place goes crazy. A total masterclass in tire management to make the one-stop strategy work. An absolute Hail Mary from Ferrari, but Leclerc gets the job done.
What a drive. A victory out of nowhere!

Final lap!
Listen to that crowd. They'll carry Leclerc around for the rest of the lap.
Piastri won't make it
This will be monumental win for Charles Leclerc and Ferrari in front of their home crowd. And a massive blunder, a race thrown away, by McLaren.
The crowd is going wild
The tifosi are already on their feet and roaring with Leclerc's engines as he sails around toward a win.
Leclerc is doing enough
He's up nine seconds on Piastri.
Piastri is catching him by a second a lap but there are only five laps left...
This is going to be some finish
Piastri has eight laps to make up 11.7 seconds to Leclerc at the front. A tense, tense finish ahead. They're pretty equal for pace in the first sector, but it's the second and third where Piastri was making big gains.

Well that wan't a fight
Piastri is on the hunt after passing Sainz for P2.
Time for Sainz to give Leclerc the assist
It's up to Carlos Sainz to try and fend off Oscar Piastri as best he can, holding him up to help Leclerc out front. Let's see how difficult he makes the pass for P2.
He's also given an expletive-laden quote from Stu, whoever Stu is, to "just f—ing drive fast."
