Average Width (ft) of a Farm Tractor (with 18 Examples) | Tractor Addict (2024)

When we were looking to buy a farm tractor, the width of the farm tractor was important because storing space was a bit of an issue for us.

So we investigated 18 different utility farm tractors (some with 2 or more different styles) to see what the average widths are. Read on to find out what we learnt!

The average width of a standard utility farm tractor is 6.2 feet (74.4 inches). Type of tires, spacing of the tires, accessories and/or implements can also effect the overall width of a farm tractor.

When considering measurements, such as width. I was curious as to what points on the tractor are used to accurately measure the width, length and height. So I hunted down a good info-graphic and found one published by New Holland. I found it in one of their online brochures. The measurement values are listed below and so is the info-graphic.

I found this very useful. I’ve also found it odd there aren’t more useful resources, like this, on the internet. I’m a smart person, but some of the most simplest questions become a bit perplexing when you are new to hobby farming and running a tractor.

  • A = Width
  • B = Height
  • C = Length
  • D = Front Weight Length
  • E = Wheelbase

But 6.2 feet (74.4 inches) is the average width of a utility tractor. Below is a list of 18 different tractor makes and models that illustrate this point. Kind of cool about New Holland and this series of farm tractors is their VisionView™ cab. The knowledge they obtained to design the cab came from farmers!

Dozens and dozens of tractor operators were involved in the design of the VisionView™ cab. The farmers told New Holland where they preferred the controls to be and New Holland put them there.

The VisionView cab is standard on the T4.65 and optional on the T4.75. It was developed using state-of-the-art virtual reality techniques
