This sign can be another indication of power steering failure, a worn steering rack, or a loose steering belt.

Grinding or screeching noise when steering

You will experience this noise when turning a corner. The noise will be in correlation with the turn of the steering wheel. There are other squeaking noises that you may experience when driving which you may experience that can be mistaken for this noise. A common noise that you may hear is squeaking coming from the brakes.

This could noise could also suggest a loose or worn steering power belt. The purpose of this belt is to connect the power steering pump to the engine. As a result of this, you may also experience power steering failure.

Discoloured liquid coming from the car

If you notice a puddle of liquid coming from your car, it can suggest a problem with the steering, amongst other things. There is a possibility that this liquid could power steering fluid. This can be further confirmed if the liquid looks foamy.

Foamy or discoloured power steering fluid is a sign that water or air has managed to get into the system.
